The Club enjoyed an exceptional Farm Walk held on Thursday 22nd June at Grove Farm, Clopton by kind Permission of F G Taylor & Son.
About 85 Club Members were treated to an enthusiastic farm tour lead by John Taylor who not only showed off his crops of Sugar Beet, Wheat and Oilseed Rape, but also allowed visitors to take in various areas of conservation around what is a highly productive commercial farm. John had gone to great lengths to demonstrate all aspects of his farming techniques from crop establishment through to harvest. Machinery was placed strategically around the farm to help illustrate these points.
Following the Farm tour the party was given the opportunity to visit the thriving USAF museum situated on the farm. This museum is dedicated to the Helton’s Hellcats from the 493rd Bomb Group who were stationed here at Debach during the second World War. Richard Taylor gave the Club a brief history of the museum and then with the assistance of many of his museum friends allowed us to explore the very many military vehicles and other exhibits on display.
A great debt of gratitude must go to the Taylor family and staff from both the farm and museum which made this afternoon so enjoyable.
