The first meeting of the winter 2023/2024 programme will be held on Thursday 9th November at Fram Farmers Office, Station Road, Framlingham IP13 9EE At 7.30 p.m.
Our speaker for that evening is Famers Weekly Writer and Podcaster Johan Tasker.
The talk is entitled “Swords and Ploughshares”
Johan who lives in south Suffolk was recently part of a convoy delivering 35 pickups full of humanitarian aid which were donated and driven by British farmers from the UK to Ukraine, where they handed over the pick-ups and the aid to the Ukrainian army.
The pick-ups were donated by farmers via the UK-based charity Pickups 4 Peace, which was founded by farmers. They will be used to transport supplies and injured soldiers to and from the front line against the Russians.
He also visited a UK-run potato farm and starch making facility, including potato lifting in the field.
Johan will present a first-hand account including photos (including possibly film clips too) on the whole experience – the 1200-mile drive across Europe, how they crossed the border, what it is like to be in an air raid, an insight into the present state of Ukrainian farming and what the situation is with Ukrainian agriculture going into winter.
Johan says “It will be something different, but I promise it will be fascinating – and with lots of farmer interest.”
The meeting will be followed by a finger buffet. The cost is £10.00/ head. Please book your place with The Secretary and pay online to Deben Farm Club, Account number 00429953, sort code 20-98-07 ref November meeting.
